Being a single parent has forced me to change my lifestyle when it comes to entertainment and spending, but I still want to give my kids experiences that they will remember for a lifetime. I have struggled the past several years on how to do that within my means.
Most recently I discovered an affordable, fun, local and a perfect mini vacation right here in Ohio.
I took my kids to Deer Creek Lodge for several days over spring break while taking advantage of Ohio State Park Lodges’ 10/20/30 deal, which gives you more savings the longer you stay. My kids’ spring break was in March, but despite the less than ideal weather, we had a blast. The pool, game room and trails were just a few activities that my kids loved. Our room was clean and comfortable with a gorgeous view. We even drove a few miles to the archery range where my daughter, a Hunger Games fanatic, had the entire range to herself to practice with her bow and arrows.
The Ohio State Park Lodges and grounds are managed by Xanterra while the surrounding park areas are part of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). There are five lodges scattered throughout Ohio. Each location offers plenty of budget friendly activities and new places to explore. The state parks with lodging include Mohican Lodge, Salt Fork Lodge, Deer Creek Lodge, Maumee Bay Lodge and Punderson Manor.
My kids had such a good time that I am about ready to book our next mini-vacay…most likely again at Deer Creek. This time we should be able to take full advantage of the outdoor activities and weather.
So, if you are looking for a little getaway that is not only affordable but fun, consider Ohio State Park Lodges.More details on the latest specials and events can be found at http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/
